

Kaylee Nichole Tan Jimenez ( 張子妤 ) , Grade 5 student from Saint Jude Catholic won a bronze award for her painting, at the First Oversees Chinese Youth Chinese Culture Practrice Competition; organized by 中國華文教育网 (Culture of Chinese
Language and Culture Education), traditional painting category. It was said that over 5000 entries were received from various students world wide.
Her painting was a depiction of the beautiful Chinese landscapes, showing its colors and vibrancy.
The winners were invited to Beijing last August 6-10, 2023 for several workshops, tours and activities that allowed them to broaden their knowledge and to foster deeper appreciation of the Chinese culture. The event culminated with an awarding ceremony.
“I study in a Chinese school and my school taught us a lot about the Chinese culture but it’s always a different perspective when you get to see it first hand. The trip has been very enriching and a really great experience for me. Aside from gaining new knowledge and experiences, I also made a lot of new friends from all over the world”.
When asked which experience she liked the most, Kaylee said she particularly liked her visit to the Tsing Hua University, as she also aspires to study in a good University someday and fulfill her dream of becoming a lawyer. She also said the tour to the Great Wall of China was amazing and she is grateful to have seen it in person, knowing that it’s one of the greatest wonders of the world.
