An economist, entrepreneur, lawyer, college professor at Pamantasan ng Maynila and candidate of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, Lopez is the eldest son of the late Manila Mayor Mel Lopez and great-grandson of the writer and anti-colonial revolutionary Honorio Lopez. Raymond Bagatsing is the eldest grandson of the late Manila Mayor Ramon Bagatsing. Atty. Alex Lopez said that although his father Mayor Mel Lopez and his late father-in-law Senator Sotero Laurel were stalwarts of the anti-martial law opposition, he and Bagatsing now support Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte-Carpio for president and vice-president in the May 2022 election because he explained that they are highly-qualified leaders working for national reconciliation and unity.
