Megaworld Cup Kicks Off with Puma Head2Head Challenge

Real estate giant Megaworld Corporation, in partnership with the Corporate Football Association (CFA) and Puma, launches on May 31 the first Megaworld Cup with a special football showcase by members of the Azkals, celebrity football players and today’s top young footballers.

Dubbed Puma Head2Head Challenge, the event will feature the country’s best young players from top high schools and colleges in Metro Manila, who will compete in a five-on-five exhibition game.

Highlighting the football event, slated at 5PM at the McKinley Hill Stadium, is a match between members of the Azkals and celebrity football players.

The football event serves as a lead-up to the inaugural Megaworld Cup, which kicks off later on the same day at 6PM. Six teams from McKinley Hill and Eastwood City will face off on the pitch using the 9-a-side format. Battling for the maiden crown in a double round-robin, points system format are corporate teams such as Bayer, Wells Fargo, FactSet, Talent 2, Thomson Reuters and Enderun Colleges.

The team that emerges with the most number of points after the double round-robin games scheduled on May 31, June 7 and 14, will be declared champion and take home the first-ever Megaworld Cup trophy.

“We are very excited to launch this football tournament as we believe that this could be a great start of fostering an even stronger camaraderie between companies and their employees not only in Megaworld townships, but also across the corporate world,” said Megaworld First Vice President and Commercial Division Head Kevin L. Tan.

“It is also through this event that we hope to continue to contribute to the growth of football in the country and encourage more aspiring players to come out and show their talents and their passion for the beautiful game,” Tan added.

In demonstration of its commitment to the growth of Filipino football, Megaworld Cup is slated to kick off its 2nd season later this year. The tournament will also be open to corporate teams outside of Eastwood City and McKinley Hill.KCI_0055
