McDonald’s Philippines for the 10th time brought together families and friends to run for reading at Stripes Run 2019. Held at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds, Stripes Run raised funds for the Ronald McDonald Read to Learn program.
Since the first-ever Stripes Run in 2010, McDonald’s has gotten a total of over 42,000 runners to join the annual fun run. Aside from the actual run, each year at Stripes Run brings fun and excitement through the various games and activity booths around the venue.
The runners were excited to end the event with a star-studded awarding session where familiar faces from the McDonald’s family— namely Alden Richards, Marian and Zia Dantes, Ogie Alcasid, and Michael V— and University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons Juan and Javi Gomez de Liano were present. Celebrity family Maricel, Anthony, Donny, and Solana Pangilinan also surprised the runners with a live reading session for kids and adults alike. The live reading session used reading kits from the Read to Learn program of the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), which helps improve the literacy skills of public school students while they are at the early stages of learning. With the help of McDonald’s initiatives like Stripes Run and Happy Meal, the Read to Learn program has reached over 12 million students, training over 28,000 educators, donated over 367,000 books, and enrolled over 10,000 partner schools.
“Stripes Run, for us, is a chance to bring together family and friends for a morning of fun, while at the same time helping improve children’s literacy through the Read to Learn program. We’re celebrating 10 years of Stripes Run and we thank our customers because we couldn’t have gotten this far without their continuous support,” said McDonald’s Philippines Marketing Director Christina Lao.
